In recognition of Buddha Purnima, a special worship was held at the Buddhammam Arivu Thirukkovil near Udumalai, celebrating the 2586th birth anniversary of Gautama Buddha.
Coimbatore: A memorable celebration unfolded today at the Buddhammam Arivu Thirukkovil located in the Selvapuram area under the Elayamuthur Panchayat near Udumalai, marking the auspicious Buddha Purnima festival. This festival, profoundly revered in Buddhist tradition, commemorates the birth, enlightenment, and passing away of Gautama Buddha, all of which interestingly fall on the same day, according to Buddhist lore.
The festivity began with a sacred water pouring ceremony, using holy water brought from the Amaravathi River, followed by special prayers, tree sapling planting, and other religious rituals dedicated to Buddha. Over 100 locals, along with important figures like Ashoka Buddha Vikar Pathananda Nagaraj from Melmaruvathur and member of the State Minority Commission, Mauriyar Buddha, attended the event.
