Over 50 members of the Commission, led by coordinator Sathasivam presented a petition at the District Collector's office in Coimbatore.
Coimbatore: The National Network for the Blind, which has been functioning for nearly 50 years has been working together for the benefit of the differently-abled. There are over 5000 registered members in the Tamil Nadu branch.
While the differently-abled are being given monthly assistance of Rs.1000, they have been insisting that the assistance is not enough in the current economic environment and hence to raise it to Rs. 3000. Despite several requests to concerned authroities, the assistance amount had not been raised. Emphasising this demand, the members submitted petitions to the District Collectors in various places across Tamil Nadu and also put forward their request to the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M K Stalin.
Over 50 members of the Commission, led by coordinator Sathasivam presented a petition at the District Collector's office in Coimbatore. They also provided a copy of the letter to be sent to the Chief Minister at the District Collector's office.
Coordinator Sathasivam said, "After the establishment of this Government, our demands were not read in the two financial reports. We expected the Government to announce the hike of the assistance amount on Kalaignar's birthday but it had not happened. The current assistance amount of Rs 1,000 is not adequate and hence it should be increased to Rs. 3,000 immediately."
