Vellalore temporary overbridge washed away by flooding Noyyal river; Traffic diverted

Motorists were forced to take diversion of over 8-km to the metropolitan areas as the temporary flyover on the Singanallur-Vellalore road was washed away in the flood.

Coimbatore: As the southwest monsoon has intensified, Coimbatore district has been receiving continuous rain for the past few days.

Due to heavy rains in the Western Ghats and Noyyal catchment areas, the Noyyal River is inundated. Especially in Alandurai, Kuniyamuthur, Putuvikki and Aathupalam areas, flood water is overflowing in Noyyal River.

Due to this, flood water is overflowing in areas like Chithirai Chavadi Anaicut and Sunnambu kalavai. In this situation, the bridge on the Vellalore-Singanallur road is usually flooded during monsoons.

Traffic was blocked due to this. Following this, the construction of a high-level bridge over the Noyyal river is going on.

For this, the ground level bridge was demolished and a new temporary overbridge was constructed for vehicles.

Due to incessant rains in the last two days, the Noyyal river was flooded and the land bridge is submerged in flood water. Vehicular traffic was stopped due to this.

Due to the construction work of the high-level bridge on the alternative route Ondipudur-Pattanam road, the people of Vellalore area are also unusable. Also, because the Podanur road is also damaged, the motorists are having a tough time.
