Even as the DMK Chief arrived in the city to pay his respects and tribute to the deceased DMK leaders M Ramanathan and K R Subbaiyan, Nilgiris MP Raja, MP P R Natarajan, former minister Pongalur Palanisamy, Chief Planning Committee member M Kannapan, Deputy Secretary of DMK Subbulakshmi Jagadeesh, former MP Viduthulai Virumbi, MLA N Karthik and other DMK members were present at the meeting.
Pongalur Palanisamy in his tribute said, "It is a gift to have people like M Ramanathan, an excellent speaker and a dedicated party member who climbed his way from being a cadre to the position he was finally at. He was in jail for six years, just for the party." He also honoured R Subbaiyan saying that he was appreciated by Kalaignar Karunanithi himself for being an excellent speaker, honest lawyer and dedicated party member all his life.
P R Natarajan also paid tribute to the late leaders saying, "I am a fan of Kovai Thendral M Ramanathan's speech. He was the one who guided the city toward development and his three-hour hour uninterrupted speech is highly appreciable. K R Subbaiyan is a hard working man. Kalaignar made him an MP in 1998 and always lived for the welfare of the people."
"I remember accompanying Kovai Thendral M Ramanathan to the Parliament as a youngster. He is an extremely talented speaker who can keep the audience engaged for over three hours. He was a dedicated person. I requested the party to allow him to record and release his speeches. K R Subbaiyan strongly registered DMK's policies in the Parliament. I am happy to see both leaders have looked after their country and their families, very well," said Raja, the Nilgiris MP.
The DMK Deputy Secretary, Subbulakshmi Jagadeesh said, "We have lost two gems of Coimbatore. We can understand the struggle of our past leaders and their sacrifice through M Ramanthan's books. This will help future generations to safeguard the policies of our party. The Coimbatore District Secretary, K R Subbaiyan was a dedicated person of the party. Following the footsteps of the two will be our first duty as a party cadre."
Spokesperson and former MP Viduthulai Virumbi said he was happy to be part of the event that paid tributes to great leaders. "M Ramanthan lived well. We are guided by his dedicated work as a party member and now M K Stalin is taking on the responsibility of 8 crore people," he opined.
