Nilgiris Collectorate invites applications from NGOs, organisations for de-addiction programme

The Nilgiris : The Nilgiris district administration has invited applications from NGOs and other service organisations who would be interested in conducting alcohol de-addiction programmes in the district.

In a recent study, the district administration found that 60 percent of youth in Nilgiris are addicted to alcohol. There are 81 TASMAC shops in Nilgiris and despite shutting down a few of them, the public are ready to travel several kilometres to satisfy their alcohol addiction. 

Though sales timings have been limited, many are indulging in illegal sales outside their timings. In average, the TASMAC shops here collects Rs 1.5 crores per day. Several young daily wage workers are starting their day with a bottle of liquor. 

To control this addiction, the district administration has sought applications from NGOs and service organisations who would be interested in conducting de-addiction programmes.
