Coimbatore : With the State of Tamil Nadu entering into a six-day holiday for Pongal festivity, passenger rush has increased manifold at the City's Railway Station.

All outstation and passenger trains to and from the city are choked with people. Despite special trains being added to handle the festive season, thousands of passengers have queued up to board the trains to reach home town to celebrate pongal holidays with their family and friends.

Additional railway police have been deployed inside the station for the safety of the passengers, especially to control thefts and chain snatching incidents.

The rising passenger crowd has even reflected in the brisk movement of vehicles in and out of the station. Hence, traffic around the railway station has been moving at snail pace due to sudden increase in passenger rush.
