The Nilgiris: Following the order of the Supreme Court to clear encroachments from the Sigur elephant corridor in the district, the administration officials have begun the preliminary works here.

The officials are currently involved in sending notices to the 39 resorts asking them to clear the encroachments.

According to District Collector Innocent Divya, they have sent notices to 27 resorts and have given them 48 hours to do the same, failing which their properties would be sealed. These resorts have a conflicting 309 rooms that fall right on the corridor.

"Notices to the remaining 12 resorts would be sent in the coming days," she said.

The collector however, has asked general public to not fear as the order does not apply to residential colonies.

It may be noted that the order was passed by the apex court after hearing the case filed by activist Elephant Rajendran, which was heard along with many cases pertaining to elephant conservation all over India.
