Monsoon rains continue to batter Gudalur and Pandalur taluks in Nilgiris, leaving all the water bodies overflow and a steady drop in temperatures. The non-stop rains have largely affected the normal life of the people.
As of July 11, rainfall in Gudalaur and Devala is measured at 78 mm and 107 mm respectively.
The residents especially those living in low-lying areas are advised to evacuate to safer zones. Many houses are reported to have collapsed either partially or fully due to non-stop downpour.
Continous power cuts and snapped telephone lines have been reported in several parts of Gudalur.
Yesterday, a giant rock eroded from the hills and landed on the road near Barwood area in Oveli.
The incident paralyzed the vehicle moment for few hours. Fortunately, no one was injured.
The tireless efforts of Panchayat employees and public helped to clear the rock from the road. Gudalur taluk officer, Ravikumar came to the spot and inspected the works.
