Smart India Hackathon 2018: 'Startup policy to be unveiled soon in TN'

Coimbatore: For five days, nine teams hosted by the FORGE incubation centre here will work round the clock to develop low-cost prototypes for expensive imports as part of the Smart India Hackathon 2018 - Hardware edition.



Smart India Hackathon 2018 - Hardware edition is the second sub-edition of the Smart India Hackathon and the grand finale is being hosted at 10 nodal centres across the country including Coimbatore. C.P. Radhakrishnan, Chairman, National Coir Board, inaugurated the finale event at Forge here and said,” SIH is a platform for students from smaller towns and remote villages with path-breaking ideas to solve their local problem harnessing the power of technology.” He also said that Smart India Hackathon acts as a perfect bridge between several national level programs such as Digital India and Make in India. 



According to a statement, Import substitution is the theme of the finale here. The event will include 3 judging rounds and an additional power judging round where top teams will be judged by industry experts and angel investors. The Winning team under each team will get a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh, Rs 75,000 to First Runner-up team and Rs 50,000 to the Second Runner-up team. The HRD Ministry is also working with Department of Science and Technology to explore the possibility of turning these winning teams into startups with the support from Technology Business Incubators.
