Alleging that ill-treatment and work pressure had led to the suicide of 26-year-old Manimala, a nurse attached to Vellakoil Primary Health Centre, the MRB nurses empowerment association members continued with their protest for the third day.

They demanded the immediate arrest of medical officers who abetted the suicide of the nurse and file criminal cases on them.

The nurses who have assembled in good numbers have observed in sit-in dharna in Kangeyam Government Hospital, where the body of Manimala is kept after postmortem

Manimala had resorted to the extreme step and hanged herself on Saturday night in her residential quarters at Vellakoil after her superiors reprimanded her for taking one day leave on Friday.

MRB nurses empowerment association members demanded that Dr. Damayanthi and Dr. Sakthi Akilandeshwari, the medical officers under whom Manimala worked had victimized her due to which she had taken the extreme step of ending her life and wanted criminal action against them.
