Condemning against Lyricist Vairamuthu’s comments on Andal (a Vaishnavite Saint and Poetess) and claiming it to be derogatory, the Vaishnavites  staged an agitation in front of Venugopalasamy temple, in Big Bazaar Street in the city.

Led by Sadagopa Ramanuja Jeeyar, the 24th Jeeyar of Manavala Maamuni Madam, the protesters said that the poet should tender his apologies for tarnishing the Vaishnavites  saint  Andal, by presenting himself at Srivilliputhur temple.

"The Hindus around the World would make him to tender apology" they said. The protesters also set a deadline of Tuesday for submitting apology lest they would resort to indefinite fast, said Sadagopa Ramanuja Jeeyar,.

Vanathi Srinivasan, State Secretary of BJP and cadres of BJP took part in the protest.
