A 70-year-old woman was killed after the scooter she was travelling on with her daughter was hit by a heavy truck on Thadagam Road near the Thiru.Vi.Ka. Nagar junction in Velandipalayam, Coimbatore. The woman, identified as Lakshmi (70) died at the spot, while police have registered a case against the truck driver and launched an investigation.

In a fatal accident reported on Thadagam Road, a 70-year-old woman was killed after the scooter she was travelling on with her daughter was hit by a heavy truck near the Thiru.Vi.Ka. Nagar junction at Velandipalayam.
The deceased was identified as Lakshmi, wife of Arumugam, of Gokulam Colony 7th Street in P.N. Pudur. Her daughter, Sumathi, 43, was riding the scooter, while Lakshmi was seated as the pillion rider.
The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon when the two were travelling along Thadagam Road. When they reached the area near Aarthi Metal Mart at the Thiru.Vi.Ka. Nagar junction, a heavy truck allegedly approaching from behind collided with their scooter.
Lakshmi was thrown onto the road in the impact and sustained fatal injuries. She died at the spot.
Police from the West Traffic Investigation Wing reached the scene, recovered the body and sent it to Coimbatore Government Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case against Pugazhendhi, 36, a truck driver from Perambalur district, and are conducting further investigation into the accident.
