Ganapathy Sivakumar, State General Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee, has cautioned that reports suggesting a possible alliance between the TVK and AIADMK could disappoint voters who supported the TVK with expectations of a transparent and corruption-free administration.
Chennai: Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) General Secretary Ganapathy Sivakumar has expressed concern over reports of a possible political alignment between the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and the AIADMK, stating that such developments could create dissatisfaction among voters who backed the TVK seeking political change and clean governance.
In a statement, Ganapathy Sivakumar said the people of Tamil Nadu had voted decisively against corruption and the BJP’s “communal politics,” while placing their faith in the TVK with the expectation that the party would deliver an honest, transparent and corruption-free administration.
He further stated that TVK president and Chief Minister Vijay’s decision to personally meet leaders of various political parties after assuming office reflected political civility and democratic maturity, and described the move as a healthy development in Tamil Nadu politics.
At the same time, he noted that Vijay’s meetings with senior AIADMK leaders, including S.P. Velumani, C. Vijayabaskar and C.V. Shanmugam, had triggered concern and surprise among a section of the public and TVK supporters who had voted for political change.
Ganapathy Sivakumar pointed out that the AIADMK had remained in alliance with the BJP for nearly a decade and alleged that several leaders from the previous AIADMK regime had faced corruption allegations and legal proceedings during their tenure in office.
In such a political context, he said any move towards an alliance with the AIADMK would run contrary to the expectations of the electorate who voted for an alternative political model.
He further warned that if media reports regarding a possible alliance with a faction of the AIADMK, along with the allocation of ministerial positions, were to materialise, it could lead to a perception among the public that there is no meaningful distinction between previous administrations accused of corruption and the present government.
Ganapathy Sivakumar also stated that such political developments could create disappointment and frustration among TVK cadre and elected representatives who had worked extensively for the party’s electoral victory.
Urging the TVK leadership to exercise caution in its future political decisions, he said the government must remain firmly committed to the promises of transparent governance, political integrity and corruption-free administration made to the people during the election campaign.
