Hindu Munnani State President Kadeswara Subramaniam said the Tamil Nadu Assembly election results reflected the strength of democracy and the clear verdict of the people, while congratulating Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam and its leader Vijay on their victory.
Coimbatore: Hindu Munnani State President Kadeswara Subramaniam, who visited Palladam in Tiruppur district, addressed reporters and said the recently concluded Tamil Nadu Assembly election results had demonstrated the true power of democracy and the people’s mandate.
“People have given a good verdict in this election. The belief that votes can be bought with money has been shattered, and bogus voting has been significantly curbed,” he said.
He further stated that the people of Tamil Nadu had decisively rejected both the Dravidian parties — the AIADMK and DMK — which had ruled the state for several decades. According to him, voters opted for change in search of better governance, women’s safety, and stronger law and order.
He alleged that during the DMK regime, issues relating to women’s safety, drug abuse, murders, and law and order became major concerns, and claimed that the government failed to address them effectively.
Kadeswara Subramaniam also remarked that while political parties focused heavily on distributing money to secure votes, TVK leader Vijay had reportedly spent very little on advertisements and had not engaged in large-scale cash distribution.
“Vijay’s victory proves that people’s votes cannot be bought with money. A new political trend has now been created,” he said.
He further stated that the SIIR voter verification process had played a major role in increasing voter participation and bringing significant changes in the elections. He appreciated the Election Commission, the Central Government, and the judiciary for supporting the process with courage and integrity.
Congratulating the BJP for its victories in various states, he noted that sitting Chief Ministers in states including Tamil Nadu and West Bengal had suffered defeats in the elections. He also pointed out that the BJP had registered major victories in states such as West Bengal, Assam, and Puducherry.
Stating that India is a secular country, he expressed hope that Vijay would uphold secular values in governance and treat all sections of society equally.
Responding to questions regarding Congress extending support to TVK, he said that since TVK did not have enough numbers to independently form the government, support from other parties had become essential. He added that the Congress alliance was important for government formation despite ideological differences and noted that parties such as the VCK, CPI(M), and CPI may also extend support to TVK.
He also recalled that TVK had made several promises to the public, including free gas cylinders and financial assistance for women and unemployed youth. While describing the promises as ambitious, he said it remained to be seen whether the party would be able to fulfil them.
Overall, he welcomed the political change in the state and extended his wishes to Vijay and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam for successful governance.
