Festive Season: How to style the corners of your home!

The year 2020 has been crazy and unpredictable for each one of us. In a way we've all been waiting for it to end and a new year to begin with hope of better things to come. What better way to celebrate the end of this exceptional year than to bring in some festive cheer into our home.

The year 2020 has been crazy and unpredictable for each one of us. In a way we've all been waiting for it to end and a new year to begin with hope of better things to come. What better way to celebrate the end of this exceptional year than to bring in some festive cheer into our home.

I had a few thoughts chasing around in my head about decor ideas for my home. But the one constant was to keep it eco friendly and vibrant at the same time. Every year I usually have a plastic Christmas tree and mostly plastic ornaments and one use streamers to decorate the tree and of course lights.

This year I'm doing something very different. I definitely wanted to have a tree at my home. But just not the plastic variety. So I built a tiny Christmas tree with all the books that my family and I have read over the years. Yes, a book tree! My daughters and I first created a broad base with our coffee table books, the biggest that we could find at home and then slowly built a stack of books that took the shape of a Christmas tree. I already had a few lights, the battery operated kind and I wrapped the book tree with them. Voila I had a cheerful looking book Christmas tree. The touch and feel of the books brought back so many wonderful memories while building the book tree. Try it with your family. It's a fun and easy activity to do with your kids.

Another easy and quick idea to follow is to dress up a console table or a coffee table with a Christmas theme. We all have a red scarf or a quilt with Christmas colors that remind us of winter vacations. You could use it as a throw on a console table. Add a couple of lanterns or candles in red or white. Move a decorative lamp to the table and give it a finishing touch with a few dried pine cones or flowers in a vase. If you have a few frames of digital art or framed photos of your family you can layer it one behind the other to give some more depth to the decor.

The console table is now a perfect photo op corner of your home to take pictures of family and the few friends that we have the luxury to meet during the holiday season. Why don't you try something similar with what you have at your home ? Throw them together with the festive theme in mind and see what you come up with. Happy holidays!
