Tourists overjoyed at sight of elephant herd roaming banks of Aliyar Dam

Due to summer, wildlife migrates to the Aliyar Dam in search of food and water.


Coimbatore: Even as tourists flock to Aliyar Dam, elephants have made a beeline to the Aliyar Dam from the dense forests of the Western Ghats next to Pollachi which is home to a variety of wildlife including elephants, leopards, spotted deer and Tahr.

Due to summer, wildlife migrates to the Aliyar Dam in search of food and water. In the last few days, a herd of elephants has been camping in the area adjacent to the Aliyar dam. In the evenings, these elephants with their cubs roam along the banks of the Aliyar Dam, a welcome sight to tourists visiting Valparai.

However, the forest department has warned tourists not to stay in the area where the elephant herd for safety purposes.
