Protests were held in various parts of Coimbatore by the Leftist parties and the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) demanding the withdrawal of petrol and diesel price hikes by the Central Government.

Coimbatore: Leftist parties and the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) staged protests in Coimbatore condemning the hike in petrol and diesel prices, and various other decisions of the Central Government.

Rising fuel and gas cylinder prices, the sale of shares of public sector companies including the for-profit LIC, to the private sector, not solving the crisis of small and medium enterprises due to uncontrolled price rise, unemployment and multiple increases in raw material prices were some of the issues that the protesters raised.

The protest was staged in front of the Coimbatore Ganapathy Bus Stand, condemning the BJP-led Government and was attended by leaders including the Communist Party Coimbatore MP, P R Natarajan and the Communist Party of India State Treasurer, M Arumugam.

Leaders of the State Committee of the Marxist Party, C Padmanabhan, Selvaraj of the Communist Party of India and V C K Guru also addressed a similar demonstration at Sivananda Colony in Coimbatore.

Similarly, CPI District Secretary V S Sundaram participated in a demonstration in Peelamedu, Sundarapuram and Thudiyalur. CPI ML District Secretary Damodaran and a large number of Leftist parties' cadres and the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) chanted slogans against the Modi government during the protest.
