Wildlife survey work is underway in all the four wildlife sanctuaries of the Pollachi forest reserve from May 25 till May 31.

Coimbatore: Wildlife survey work is in full swing at the Anaimalai Tiger Reserve comprising the four wildlife sanctuaries.

The Pollachi Forest Reserve (Ulandi) under the Anaimalai Tiger Reserve near Pollachi comprises four wildlife sanctuaries namely Topslip, Manampalli, Pollachi and Valparai. Wildlife such as elephants, leopards, tigers, spotted deer and lion-tailed monkeys roam freely at the Anaimalai Tiger Reserve. Wildlife surveys are conducted during summer and winter seasons.

The National Tiger Commission has ordered for this year's summer wildlife survey, following which the wildlife survey work has begun in all the four wildlife sanctuaries in the Pollachi forest reserve from May 25 till May 31.

The trained forest staff were divided into separate teams, and the first wildlife survey kick-started on Wednesday. In this survey, wildlife footprints, scratches on trees and debris were recorded by a GPS device and processor.

All the information collected in the wildlife survey is handed over to the Director of the Anaimalai Tiger Reserve on the last day. Over 100 anti-poaching guards and forest personnel are participating in the survey.
