Liquor should not be sold illegally: Police warn liquor shop employees in Valparai

Police have warned people not to sell illegal liquor during a consultation meeting with government liquor store employees.

Coimbatore: A consultative meeting was held today at the Government Liquor Stores under the chairmanship of Valparai Police Inspector Karpagam.

There are more than 60 estate areas in the Valparai area of Coimbatore district. About 70,000 people live in the area. Alcohol is being sold illegally and both adults and children are suffering from alcoholism.

Government liquor shops are operating in Valparai, Sholayar Dam, Mudis and Rottikadai. Boys and girls alike are being victimized as wholesalers buy liquor in bulk at liquor stores and sell it in estate areas.

Women report that school children suffer from not being able to go to school because of alcoholism. To bring this under control, a consultation meeting was held today with the employees of the government liquor stores under the chairmanship of Valparai Police Inspector Karpagam.

The time of opening and closing of the shop at this meeting should be subject to government regulation time. Ensure that CCTV cameras are installed in all liquor stores and bars. Bottles of liquor should not be sold in excess of the amount prescribed by the government per person.

The shop should not be open for business after 10 pm, or before 12 noon as per the time fixed by the government. Do not sell at a price higher than the price set by the government. Departmental action will be recommended by the concerned department against the shop supervisors who are thus acting outside the norm.

The police inspector said that departmental action would be recommended against the shop supervisor if it came to light that the shop had bought bottles of liquor during the arrest and investigation of the retailers.

She also asked to inform the policeimmediately in the telephone number 04253 222201 if liquor is being sold illegally in the estate areas.
