Tirupur-Coimbatore District Textile Manufacturers' Union strike for two days

The textile manufacturers have condemned the increase in yarn prices and demanded that the government take action to bring out the hoarding cotton.


Tirupur: The Tirupur Coimbatore District Textile Manufacturers' Union has announced a two-day strike to condemn the rise in yarn prices.



The power loom industry is the main source of livelihood in Tirupur and Coimbatore districts. There are 3-lakh power looms. It directly and indirectly 5 lakh employees working.



Gada fabric is produced by giving textile manufacturers pav yarn. 3-crore meters of Gada fabric is produced per day. In this situation the price of all varieties of cotton yarn has been increased by Rs.40 per kg per month.

This Has caused great distress among textile manufacturers. It has created an extraordinary situation in the production of handloom and handloom industries which can take place in large numbers in the 14-districts of Tamil Nadu.

Many thousands of manufacturers have been severely affected, and the lives of millions of workers who could depend on the industry have been plunged into crisis.

In this context, the Tirupur Coimbatore District Textile Manufacturers' Union has been engaged in a two-day strike (May 16, 17 2022) to condemn the rise in yarn prices and demand control over the rise in yarn prices.



Textile manufacturers have demanded that the government take action to ban the export of cotton, waste cotton and yarn and to bring hoarding cotton out.

It is noteworthy that 100-crore rupees worth of Gada fabrics have already stagnated due to the inability to set a fixed price for the Gada fabrics produced due to the rise in yarn prices.
