A fine of Rs 25,000 for using plastic covers for food parcels in Pollachi: Municipal officials order action!

Officials told a meeting at the Pollachi Municipal Office that the shop would be sealed and If prohibited plastic covers are used to parcel out food items a fine of up to Rs.25,000.


Coimbatore: The government has ordered that items including plastic covers should not be used.

But in some restaurants and shops plastic is being continued to be used. Food items including tea, coffee, chutney and sambar can be wrapped in plastic wrap. In this context, a consultation meeting was held at the Municipal Office under the chairmanship of Municipal Chairman Navaneethakrishnan with the restaurant owners regarding the ban on the use of plastic in areas under the Pollachi Municipality. The meeting was attended by a number of officials and restaurant owners, including with the permission of the Municipal Commissioner.

Use recyclable materials to parcel out food items. A fine of up to Rs.25,000 will be imposed for using banned plastic items. Subsequently, action will be taken to lock and seal the store if use is found. Officials said everyone should co-operate to make Pollachi a plastic-free municipality.
