1,700 banana trees ready for harvest were damaged due to heavy wind and rains near Palladam

Balasubramaniam, 47, of Velampalayam, next to Palladam, in the Tirupur district is a farmer. He cultivated Nendran bananas on his 2 acres of land in Poomalur village.

Tirupur: Last November, he started his work with the banana plantations, they were soon to be harvested but due to heavy rains on 10th Tuesday, all the banana trees were uprooted and damaged by the wind. Banana plantations roughly weighing around 60 tonnes were destroyed. He was supposed to harvest the bananas and send them to Kerala.

However, given the circumstances, he was subjected to a great monetary loss of several lakhs. Farmer Balasubramaniam has requested that the government take action and provide him with appropriate compensation.

Similarly, all across the Palladam area, banana plantations have been pervasively damaged due to rains. It is the expectation of the farmers of the area that the district administration should investigate this issue and take action to provide compensation.
