Man caught with 22 kg of cannabis - Coimbatore court sentences him to 10 years in jail

Following this, Justice Lokeswaran sentenced Ilayaraja to 10 years in prison and fined him Rs.1 lakh for selling kilos of cannabis illegally.


Coimbatore: A Coimbatore court has sentenced a man who came to Coimbatore with 22 kg of cannabis to 10 years in prison.

Ilayaraja (60) is from Theni district. He came to Coimbatore in 2020 to sell cannabis in a sack. Then, while waiting for a sale near the Coimbatore railway station, the Narcotics Prevention Unit rounded him up and prosecuted him.

Later, 22 kg of cannabis was seized from him and he was also arrested. The case was being heard in a Coimbatore court and the verdict was expected yesterday.

Following this, Justice Lokeswaran sentenced Ilayaraja to 10 years in prison and fined him Rs 1 lakh for selling kilos of cannabis illegally.
