Perur Adheenam said that in response to the protest, we have turned it into a thanks giving meeting after the Forest Department announced that it was currently granting permission for the Vellingiri hill trek.
Coimbatore: The forest department had recently banned devotees from climbing the Vellingiri hill in the Poondi area of Coimbatore. The abrupt ban on trekking the mountain, which allowed only a few walks a year, caused great dissatisfaction among the devotees.
Since it is summer, wildlife roams the Vellingiri hills in large numbers in search of water and food, for the benefit of the devotees, the Forest Department explained that this action had been taken, accordingly, permission to climb the Vellingiri hill was denied from May 1.
The ban was opposed by various Hindu organizations. Perur Adheenam Santalinga Marudachala Adigalar announced that he would take part in the protest demanding the lifting of the ban.
In this case, the protest, which was announced after the ban was lifted on behalf of the Forest Department, was turned into a Thanks giving meeting.
Speaking about this, Perur Adheenam Adigalar, “We must first understand why this situation occurred. On April 30, it was suddenly announced that no one should go to Velliangiri.
We contacted the officials of the Department of Hindu Religious Affairs, through whom we met the Minister of Forests and first obtained permission. However, they abruptly stopped the climb the mountain again.
In terms of organizing the demonstration, we are gathered here. However, we have turned it into a Thanksgiving meeting in response to the protest after the Forest Department announced that it was currently granting permission."
The meeting was attended by many members of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural Association, including S. Palanichamy.
