Precautionary measures against tomato virus - Awareness in schools and Anganwadis

Therefore, precautionary measures are being taken on behalf of the district administration to prevent the spread of the tomato virus in Coimbatore from those coming to Coimbatore from Kerala.

Coimbatore: The District Collector Sameeran claims that awareness is being created in schools and Anganwadis in the Coimbatore district as a precautionary measure against the tomato virus infection.

“Coimbatore district is close to the state of Kerala, geographically. Many people from Kerala visit Coimbatore regularly for various reasons.

Therefore, precautionary measures are being taken on behalf of the district administration to prevent the spread of the tomato virus in Coimbatore from those coming to Coimbatore from Kerala. The health department has set up a check post at Valayar on the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border for this purpose.

This virus usually affects children under 5 years of age. There is a risk of high spread, but the virus controls itself. This type of infection has been reported in a few districts of Kerala. We have instructed the high-ranking officers working in the Walayar check post to carry out the necessary tests. An Awareness campaign is being carried out in schools and Anganwadis by the Anganwadi staff.” said Coimbatore district collector.
