Coimbatore: A 20-year-old female elephant has been found dead in a paddy field near the Coimbatore lake forest.

Forest officials patrolled near the Coimbatore Forest Reserve, Thudiyalur Division Lake Reserve. At that time, a 20-year-old female elephant was found dead in a private plot of land about 250 meters from the forest.

Also, more than three days after the death of the elephant, there was a trace of fluid on the elephant's body. Therefore, the dead elephant may have been infected with anthrax, foresters and veterinarians suspected.

Thus, with appropriate protective equipment such as a mask the officials went near the dead elephant and collected liquid samples which were sent for examination. At the end of the test, it was determined that the elephant did not have anthrax.

The forest department has announced that a post-mortem examination of the dead elephant will be conducted today morning under the leadership of veterinary officer Sukumar.

The forest department is also examining the possibility of pregnancy miscarriage and said that it will be known only after the physical examination is over.

Recently, a female elephant was found dead with her calf after a miscarriage near the Bhavani Dam water reservoir in Sirumugai Wildlife Sanctuary.
