Renovation of roof at Collectorate building in Coimbatore drags without completion

The dilapidated roof of an old building at the District Collectorate in Coimbatore was completely demolished after two long months, and it has been alleged that the construction wastes are lying at the premises undisposed for the past two days.


Coimbatore: Dragged renovation works, and the irresponsible work nature of the labourers in renovating the roof of an old building in Collectorate is being scorned by.



The roof of the old building of the Coimbatore district collectorate, which was in a dangerous condition, has been completely removed for the past two months.

There are offices including social welfare department, food safety department, child welfare department, e-sevai centre, information and public relations office and archives in the three storey old collectorate building. Several renovation works were carried out in the building recently.

As part of that, the roof in the facade of the building was damaged and bad. It has been ordered to intensify the work of restoring the roof as it is a place where government officials, employees and the public come in large numbers.

On March six, the labourers who were engaged in clearing off the roof, found it completely damaged.



While the employees were carrying out maintenance work, it was found that the roof was in a very slippery condition.



While hitting a part of the roof, suddenly cements collapsed on the roof and fell down. Following this, the employees on duty stood away and removed the cement blocks.



There were no pillars on the roof, however, the bars looked bad, but the roof was removed after two long months. It has now been alleged that it has been two days since the roof was demolished and the waste has been dumped in the same area till now.
