Public can write to CCMC Commissioner regarding objections to hike in property tax: Coimbatore Corporation

An e-mail can also be sent to the Coimbatore Corporation Office at [email protected] regarding the hike in property tax.

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation has announced that anyone with any kind of objection to the recent hike in property tax can write to the CCMC Commissioner within 30 days.

It is customary for property tax to be raised once in 10 years to improve specific areas in the Corporation and to carry out development works. In line with this, property tax has now been increased and many of them have administrative sanctions which can be informed to the Commissioner of Coimbatore Corporation.

In Coimbatore Corporation, property tax was increased in 2008 and the next hike was announced this year in 2022 after 14 years, which actually had to be in 2018. However, the public and other parties have been condemning the move to hike property tax.

During a meeting on property tax, properties were assessed by comparing buildings on the roadside and dividing them into A, B and C. Following this, a notification had been issued under Section 119 of the Coimbatore Municipal Corporation Act, 1981 regarding public consultation and public review of property tax.

Now, the public has been notified that if they want to raise any objection to the hike in property tax, they could write to the CCMC Commissioner within 30 days, or else send an e-mail to the Coimbatore Corporation office at [email protected].
