First Coimbatore North Zone Meeting: Ward No.11 Councillor demands cancellation of parking fee near Prozone Mall

The demand to cancel the parking fee charged near the Prozone Mall was done to help avoid traffic congestion.

Coimbatore: The first zonal meeting of Coimbatore Corporation North Zone was held at the North Zone office in which the Zone's Councillors participated.

The meeting was chaired by the Corporation Mayor Kalpana Anandakumar and was attended by members from the North Zone.

In the meeting, the Ward members put forward their demands, issues and the work that needed to be immediately addressed.

Palaniswami alias Siravai Siva, Councillor of Ward No. 11 requested that the Rs.5. lakh allocated to the Corporation per Ward should be increased to Rs.10 lakh and that the supply interval of drinking water should be reduced from 10-12 days to a lesser interval. "Water pipes in the area are in a bad shape as they were broken. Potholes dug up for laying of water pipelines under the Amrut scheme are yet to be repaired and the roads are in disrepair. Two tar roads must be constructed in Ward No. 11.

The public had to approach the PHC in Vilankurichi as there were none in close proximity to Ward No.11 and upon request, two sub-primary health centres (PHCs) were set up. One more health centre is coming up, for which I would like to thank the Government of Tamil Nadu for considering the request and initiating action," stated the Ward No.11 Councillor.

The Councillor also put forth a request to not collect parking fees from The Prozone Mall on Saravanampatti Road and asked the status of the same. "If there is no parking fee, no one will park vehicles on the road and go away, so there will be no traffic jam. In other States, people have filed a case in court that such parking fees should not be collected. It is mandatory that the complex should have its own parking lot and the parking fee should also be decided by the complex's management," stated the Councillor.

Following this, the Mayor assured to consider and discuss all the demands put forth to arrive at a decision on the issue.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Mayor, Vetri Selvan, North Zone President, Kathirvel, Ward members and Government officials.
