Parents petition Collector seeking action against NEET coaching centre in Coimbatore over daughter's alleged suicide

The parents' petition raised suspicion over the girl's death and sought the District Collector's intervention in the matter.

Coimbatore: The parents of an 18-year-old girl who reportedly ended her life by suicide at her NEET Training Centre have submitted a petition to the Coimbatore District Collector, G S Sameeran seeking action against the NEET Training Centre.

On April 1, an 18-year-old girl hung herself in the hostel of a Sri Vari NEET coaching centre at Kovilpalayam in Coimbatore district. The Kovilpalayam Police registered a case in this regard and speculated that the girl committed suicide due to a love affair.

But meanwhile, the girl's parents met the Coimbatore District Collector to submit a petition alleging suspicion over the girl's death and sought the District Collector's intervention in the matter.

In their petition, the parents have raised various doubts about the death of their daughter since there seemed to be no photographic evidence of suicide, and the news of the death was conveyed late after the room had been cleaned up. Though the management had claimed that she had ended her life by suicide at the start of the investigation, the police have not yet questioned the Academy's management.

The parents added that the management had insulted the girl with a caste slur for pointing out a mistake in the lesson taught by the teacher. It is reported that another woman had also died mysteriously in the Center for the same reason.

The girl's parents who hail from Arthanaripalayam sought the intervention of the Coimbatore Collector for proper action against the NEET coaching center.

Briefing the media later, Arthanaripalayam Panchayat President Kulothungan stated that a petition had already been submitted to the District Collector regarding the death of the student but there had been no progress regarding the petition thus far.

Adding that there were suspicions raised regarding the girl's death, Kulothungan said that there have been such instances already in the Academy where no action had been taken against the Center.
