MSME body from Coimbatore visit Delhi to meet Union Ministers; Seek permanent solution to rise in raw material prices

The Coimbatore industry body is meeting Union Ministers in Delhi to apprise them on the present situation and find a permanent solution to the issue of rising prices of raw materials.



Coimbatore: The MSME industrialists from Coimbatore are presently at Delhi to meet the Union Minister with a view to seek a permanent solution to the rising raw material price rise.

The industrial city of Coimbatore is renowned globally for the manufacture of various products including textiles, automobile spare parts, engineering materials, wet grinders, motor pump sets, casting etc. There are 1.5 lakh registered industries and more than 30,000 micro enterprises functioning in Coimbatore district. More than 8 lakh workers from various parts of the country, not Tamil Nadu are employed in various industrial units functioning under the manufacturing sector.

The manufacturing sector is gradually emerging after the impact of the Covid pandemic waves. However, the prices of various raw materials used in the manufacturing sector including steel, copper, aluminium, scrap, casting have been increasing by 100 - 200 percent in the last two years.

A request was made to the Central Government on behalf of various industry bodies on the issue. However, no action has been taken till date. The Medium, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across the country staged a protest to stop production to draw the Centre's attention to the issue. With the situation worsening day by day, various industry associations from Coimbatore decided to visit Delhi on Wednesday to find a permanent solution.



According to the Coimbatore industry body, raw materials are the most important basic requirement for all manufacturing industries. The price of such raw materials has been increasing by 100 to 200 percent and above, in the last two years. all the industries belonging to the MSME category have been severely affected. Separate representations are being sent to the Government of India on behalf of the industry bodies and organisations on the issues being faced by them at regular intervals.



However, no action has been taken till date. The situation has worsened to such an extent that the issue of rising raw material prices is strangling entrepreneurs. "Since the livelihood of lakhs of workers will be affected, we have decided to come together with the office bearers of various industry bodies including ICCI, CODISSIA, SIEMA, TACT, COTMA, TANSTIA, etc., from Coimbatore to meet the Union Ministers in Delhi and apprise them of the situation with statistics, and also urge them to take steps to find a permanent solution to the problem of price rise in raw materials," stated industrialists.
