Tirupur:Poultry farmers staged protest in Tirupur Collectorate demanding that the Poultry Coordination Committee be directed to hold talks on increasing poultry prices.

The Agricultural Poultry Farmers' Welfare Association staged a protest in front of the District Collector's office in Tirupur and submitted a memorandum demanding a direction to the Palladam Broiler Coordination Committee (PCC) to hold talks to increase the poultry prices.

Over 20 districts in TN including Tirupur, Coimbatore, Erode and Dindigul rear poultry. The Palladam-headquartered Broiler Coordination Committee (BCC) fixes the procurement price. At present, a minimum of Rs 6.5 per chicken is paid as rearing wages to the farmers who rear the chicks through the PCC.

A few days ago, a large number of broiler farmers belonging to the Tamil Nadu Broiler Farm Farmers Co-ordination Welfare Association gathered at the PCC office at Palladam, demanding that the rearing be increased. They demanded an immediate discussion on the wage hike and on failure, they stated that the next stage of the agitation would be announced soon.

A petition has been submitted by the protestors demanding that the district administration intervene and take appropriate action, as the BCC which promised to hold talks has, to date, not invited them for the discussion. The poultry farmers carried chickens in their hands to press for the demand
