The Kovai Kulangal Padhukappu Amaippu distributed 2000 saplings to the public at the Sundarapuram Semmozhi Park and Annur bus stand, from Friday morning to mark World Earth Day.
Coimbatore:The Kovai Kulangal Padhukappu Amaippu distributed 2,000 saplings to the public on World Earth Day.
On the occasion of World Earth Day, various awareness programs are being organized across Tamil Nadu. As part of this, the Kovai Kulangal Padhukappu Amaippu distributed saplings at Sundarapuram Classical Park and Annur bus stands from Friday morning.
To commemorate World Earth Day, home-grown fruit and flowering plants were distributed to invest in the health of the soil and man. About 2,000 saplings were distributed to the public, especially guava, pomegranate, custard apple, amla, tree gooseberry, lemon, henna, curry leaves and novel saplings. The public also bought saplings enthusiastically, since the morning.
"According to a report by the UN agency, we are going to suffer huge losses due to global warming in the next 20-30 years. There will also be melting of ice and a rise in sea level due to climate change. Trees should be planted to prevent this. It is on this basis that saplings are being distributed on the occasion ofWorld Earth Day and awareness is being created among the public," stated Manikandan, Coordinator,Kovai Kulangal Padhukappu Amaippu.
