Economic crisis in Sri Lanka leads to postponement of air services between Coimbatore-Sri Lanka

It was earlier announced that the flight services would resume this month. However, due to the ongoing economic crisis in Sri Lanka, flights have been postponed to October.

Coimbatore: The resumption of flight services between Coimbatore and Sri Lanka has been postponed to October due to the prevailing economic crisis in Sri Lanka.

The International flight section at Coimbatore Airport operated flights to Sharjah, Singapore and Sri Lanka. The pandemic caused a halt to international transport for the last two years. At present, air services between Coimbatore-Sharjah and Coimbatore-Singapore have resumed.

Accordingly, Sri Lankan airlines suspended flights between Coimbatore and Sri Lanka for two years. It was earlier announced that the flight services would resume this month. However, due to the ongoing economic crisis in Sri Lanka, flights have been postponed to October.

Sources at Coimbatore airport opine that the extraordinary situation in Sri Lanka is primarily due to the ongoing economic crisis in the country.

"However, flights are being operated from Sri Lanka to various countries including India and flights are very well available to Chennai in Tamil Nadu. Flight services between Coimbatore and Sri Lanka had temporarily been suspended and were scheduled to resume this April, but however, it has been postponed now to October. Depending on the circumstances then, the decision on resuming or postponing further will be taken," added airport souces.
