30-year-old arrested for acid attack on elderly man over loud TV noise at his home in Coimbatore

A man named Veeramani has been arrested for throwing acid on an elderly man after a heated argument for reportedly watching television at a high volume.


Coimbatore: A 30-year-old man has been arrested for throwing acid on his neighbour over a heated argument on loud TV noise at the elderly man's home near Selvapuram in Coimbatore.

Sampath (70), a native of Chokkampudur near Selvapuram in Coimbatore survived the acid attack by his neighbour, Veeramani (30). Reportedly, Sampath was watching TV at his home on Tuesday night at high volume which had disturbed the youth.

Veeramani barged into the old man's house and asked him to lower the volume which led to a heated argument. An enraged Veeramani took acid and reportedly hurled it on Sampath's face injuring the elderly man on his face, mouth and eyes. Following this, the neighbours rescued Sampath and admitted him to the Coimbatore Government Hospital for immediate treatment.

Sampath lodged a complaint with the Selvapuram police, after which the police registered a case and arrested Veeramani and lodged him in jail.
