The fireworks that were lit to welcome BJP City In-charge Muruganandham at the anniversary celebration held to honour sanitary workers as part of BJP anniversary celebrations ended in a minor fire accident.
Coimbatore: The shamiana placed at the felicitation program held by BJP for sanitary workers caught fire, after a firecracker was lit.
A program was held in Kuniyamuthur to honour the 'safai karamcharis' as part of the Bharatiya Janata Party's anniversary celebrations. City District In-charge Muruganantham was the Chief Guest at the event. Muruganantham performed 'pada pujas' to the three safai karamcharis present there.
Following this, food was distributed to the sanitation workers. Muruganandam addressed the sanitation workers after the pada puja ceremony was over.
Reportedly, the string used for fireworks to be lit to greet Muruganandham exploded and the shamiana caught fire. BJP workers present at the spot doused the fire immediately with water, thereby averting any untoward incident at the venue.
