The Tamil Development Department had organized an elocution contest on the occasion of Dr. B R Ambedkar's birth anniversary
Coimbatore: The Tamil Development Department in Coimbatore organized an elocution contest for school students in the city to commemorate Dr. B R Ambedkar's birth anniversary.
The district level elocution competition was held at the Cloth Merchant Girls Higher Secondary School in Thermutti area of Coimbatore district.
More than 50 students from both Government and private schools in Coimbatore district were selected for the main elocution competition.
The contestants had to speak for five minutes on any of the 11 titles given to them which comprised The Light of the Nation - Ambedkar, Biography of Babasaheb Ambedkar, Ambedkar's Poverty, Ambedkar's Education, Ambedkar in the Constituent Assembly, Ambedkar as Anti-caste, Ambedkar's Youth, Ambedkar's Achievements in India, Social Justice and Ambedkar, Lawyer Ambedkar and India's Morning Star Ambedkar. The toppers in the elocution competition qualify for the state-level contests.
Six Government and private school Tamil teachers, including Dr. Shanthi were the judges in the elocution competition chaired by Bhuvaneswari, Deputy Director, Department of Tamil Development, Coimbatore District.
