Twin murders in Palakkad: Section 144 curfew imposed in Palakkad raises alarms in Coimbatore

The Coimbatore city police has increased surveillance and 900 police personnel have been deployed here after the alarming twin murder in 24 hours in Palakkad, along with a family of four hacked at their house tartled the state. Police are also keeping an eye on new faces at Coimbatore-Palakkad borders, railway stations and inns


Coimbatore: The security and surveillance has been intensified in Coimbatore after the serial killing in Palakkad startled both the states.

Four members of a family were hacked by a youth with a sickle around 3 am on April 14 at Kottai in Palakkad district. They were seriously injured and are undergoing treatment at a hospital. Subair, an SDPI member who was returning from the mosque near Kozhinjampara at around 2 pm on the 15th, was hacked to death by unidentified miscreants in front of his father. Following this, at around 2 pm the day before yesterday(16th), Srinivasan, an RSS member was scythed at the shop he was working in, by a group and fled the scene.

Tension swelled in Palakkad district due to the continuous spate of murders. Police are being deployed to prevent any further untoward incident.Prohibitory orders under Section 144 have also been imposed across the district. More than 1,000 police personnel have been deployed for intensive surveillance and security.

The Coimbatore district located very near to Palakkad has been equipped with 900 police personnel,in the city areas. Surveillance has been intensified in major areas of the city for three days. They are also investigating the movement of new people at border railway stations and private hotels.

Meanwhile, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of the city police commissioner to discuss the enhancement of police security provided to viable persons in Coimbatore district.
