Chithirai Pournami: a great dharisanam for devotees who scaled the Velliangiri Hills near Coimbatore!

Thousands of devotees visited Velliangiri Andavar on the day of Chithirai Pournami: in the Velliangiri Hills, Coimbatore yesterday.


Coimbatore: Velliangiri Andavar Temple is located at the foothills of the Western Ghats in Coimbatore. The forest department only allows pilgrims to climb the hill every year, from February to May, and reachthe seventh peak of the mountain range near the temple. In that sense, the first pilgrims were allowed to climb the mountain on February 28 this year.

Every year on the day of Chithirai Pournami:, tens of thousands of devotees climb the Velliangiri hills and worship the suyambulingam in the seventh hill. Since the night before yesterday, a large number of devotees had come to climb the hill. But, as it was raining at night, they were not allowed to climb the mountain. Devotees were allowed to climb the hill from 6:00 am yesterday, the day of Chithirai Pournami. A special anointing and Deeparadhana took place for Lord Velliangiri of Poondi, Manonmani Amma and Lord Shiva in the form of a lingam on the hill.

A large number of devotees came by foot to visit the Lingam. Special arrangements were made on behalf of the temple administration, the forest department and the police.
