City corporation allocates Rs 10.7 crores to meet water scarcity in Coimbatore

The summer has imposed a lofty water scarcity this season in Coimbatore and the Corporation has allocated an amount of Rs 10.7 crores to meet the water scarcity, through which new borewells shall be constituted and the old faulty borewells will also be repaired


Coimbatore: The Corporation has allocated an amount of Rs 10.7 crores to meet the water scarcity in Coimbatore that has been on the rise this season.

A sum of Rs.10.7 crore has been allocated to meet the lofty water scarcity in Coimbatore Corporation. The corporation will take up construction of borewells and repair of old borewells to meet the summer water needs.

The councillors also allege that there is an uneven supply of drinking water to the wards in Coimbatore, supplied at an interval of 10 days for a few wards and once in two days for some wards.

The Commissioner of The Coimbatore Municipal Corporation Raja Gopal Sunkara IAS said that "A sum of Rs.10.7 crore has been allocated for the construction of Borewells and repair of old borewells in Coimbatore Corporation. Out of this, Rs 5.8 crore has been allocated for the construction of 107 new borewells, Rs 1.69 crore has been allocated for cleaning 169 borewells and Rs 3.18 crore has been allocated for repairs to 152 borewells."
