Special hill trains to be operated in Nilgiris as tourist inflow increases

With the onset of summer, the tourists visiting Coonoor, Nilgiris has increased drastically, due to which the Railway authorities have stated that the mountain rail service will be increased with special train at the hill station


Nilgiris:A special mountain train will be run for tourists visiting Coonoor Nilgiris, the railway officials said.

The Nilgiri mountain train has been conferred with the 'UNESCO' heritage status.With the increased attention of international tourists to travel in this train, special trains are run during the summer season. Hill train is being operated once between Mettupalayam-Ooty-coonoor and four times between ooty-Coonoor. With the onset of summer, tourists visiting the hill station has increased and thus the railway department has decided to operate special train

Railway Board finance member Naresh Salocha and Salem divisional general manager Gautham Srinivasan inspected the special hill train that arrived from Mettupalayam to Coonoor yesterday, 14th April.

"Steps are being taken to improve the Nilgiris mountain train. With the number of tourists increasing at present, special trains will soon run on weekends up to Rannimedu." They also stated that pre bookings are being made continuously for 120 days between Mettupalayam-Coonoor. The reservation train list, which was changed due to COVID-19, will be changed in 15 days and steps will be taken to run without reservation, they said.
