Jain community celebrate 2,621st Janma Kalyanak of Lord Mahaveera in Coimbatore with religious fervour

The Jain community thanked the Coimbatore District administration, the city police and the press for the help rendered in celebrating the event.



Coimbatore: On the festive occasion of the 2,621st Janma Kalyanak of Lord Mahaveera being celebrated in Coimbatore, the holy procession or 'Vargoda' began from the Suparswanath Jain Temple, RG Street at 9.30 am and weaved through Sukrawarpet, Oppankara Street, Vysyal Street, Vimalnath Jain Temple and then reached Suparswanath Jain Temple. 220 women and 27 men underwent 'Varshiptap' fasting.



The teachings of Lord Mahahaveera, specially the principle of 'Live and let live' were sung as bhajans in Tamil, Hindi, Prakrit and Sanskrit languages.



Over 1600 devotees participated and sweets were distributed. 



All arrangements were made by Sree Rajasthani Jain Swethambar Murti Pujak Sangh and organised by the SSJM Youth Wing of the temple.

President Vijayraj Candaliya welcomed the gathering of devotees and the Rajasthani Jain Shwetambhar Murti Pujak Sangh Secretary, Mahaveer Mehta explained the teachings of Lord Mahaveera. Sripal Ostwal, the President of SSJM stated that the Youth Wing was always present during the Covid pandemic to help the needy. The social work unit now comprised over a lakh people during the last two years.



More than 14 Youth Wings of different sects and 9 Women Mahilla Mandal members participated in the festive event.



The women were clad in red chanderi traditional saris while the men were seen in white traditional kurta pyjamas.



The idol of Lord Mahaveera was taken on a procession while women were seen cleaning the roads and sprinkling the water ahead of the procession.



Members of the Jain community performed an 'abhishekam' for the idol in the temple early Thursday morning at a 'Brahma Muhartam' with rare herbs, sandal and kesar. The procession was taken after a long gap of 3 years and hence the Jain community thanked the temple administration.
