'Soil is not a resource, it is the source of our life:' Sadhguru at UNCCD in Bonn

Sadhguru joined the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD)’s Executive Secretary Ibrahim Thiaw in Bonn, as part of his 100-day journey to rally support for the 'Save Soil Movement.'

Bonn, Germany: On a mission to save soil across the world from complete extinction, Sadhguru joined the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD)’s Executive Secretary Ibrahim Thiaw in Bonn, as part of his 100-day journey to rally support for the 'Save Soil Movement.'

Both echoed the sentiment that realizing everything we need in our daily lives comes from the soil and that conscious actions can make a real difference. "This is the first step to preserving this precious resource and reversing degradation. Most governments are still treating soil as an inert substance that you can manage by adding or subtracting chemicals. We first need the consciousness that we are dealing with life and not material. Soil is not a resource, it is the source of our life," reiterated Sadhguru.

Sadhguru and Thiaw agreed that land and soil restoration can be a simple and powerful solution to key environmental challenges that the world is facing today, including climate change, biodiversity loss and destruction of ecosystems. The 100-day journey on a bike by Sadhguru aims to cover 30,000 km across 27 nations in an attempt to call on policymakers and public to make soil regeneration a priority.

Sadhguru on his motorbike received a warm welcome in Bonn from the executive management of the UN agency in Germany. The UNCCD is a UN agency established to be the global voice for land, which promotes practices that avoid, reduce and reverse land degradation.

The UNCCD and the Soil Campaign will reconvene at the UNCCD COP15 in Abidjan in May later this year.
