Elderly woman escapes miraculously after accidental fall from the terrace in Coimbatore

After an accidental fall from the terrace, a 63-year-old elderly woman from Singanallur housing unit sustained injuries and is being treated at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, here.


Coimbatore: A 63-year-old woman residing at Singanallur Housing Unit area here sustained several injuries after she fell from the terrace, while trying to check water level in the tank.



Owing to the dilapidated state of the houses in the Singanallur housing unit, many families have vacated their houses and moved on to different locations. However, of the 50 families, a few continue to live there in houses which are in a poor state.

Among them is Subbulakshmii (63) who opted to live there despite the dilapidated state of the apartment complex and runs an idli shop for livelihood.

Meanwhile, after heavy rains lashed several parts of Coimbatore city on Wednesday. In the wee hours of Thursday, Subbulakshmi went to the terrace of the house to check the water level in the tank.



Unexpectedly, the roof of the house collapsed and Subbulakshmi fell from the terrace onto the cement shed of her idli shop.

On hearing the sound of the wall collapsing, the neighbours rushed to her rescue and admitted her in Coimbatore Government Hospital.

Subbulakshmi miraculously survived and sustained only injuries. The Singanallur police and revenue department officials were informed of the incident, and an investigation is underway.

Former Singanallur MLA Karthik who rushed to the spot, inspected the area and enquired with the authorities.
