Coimbatore South Fire Station personnel pay tributes to firefighters who died in Mumbai ship fire in 1994

In honour of the sacrifices made by fire brigade personnel who died in the line of duty, memorial day was observed at the Coimbatore South Fire Station, on Thursday.


Coimbatore: A memorial day was observed at the Coimbatore South Fire Station on April 14 to honour sacrifices made by the fire brigade personnel who died in the line of duty.

National Fire Service Day on April 14 is observed every year to pay homage to the incredible commitment and sacrifice by the 66 Fire Service personnel who lost their lives during an mishap in 1944 at the Victoria Dock in the Bombay Port.

In a bid to save the lives of people, several firefighters selflessly sacrificed their lives and exhibited exemplary courage and valour during the rescue operations during the mishap in 1944.

Across the nation, tributes and events are being held on this day to commemorate their sacrifices.



In Coimbatore, floral tribute was paid on behalf of the South Fire and Rescue department.



Sathyanarayanan, Joint Director, West Zone, District Fire Service Officer, Annathurai, Coimbatore District Fire Officer, Velusamy, Station head and others paid floral tributes to the memorial pillar at Coimbatore South Fire Station.



To create more awareness on prevention of fire accidents and role of fire fighters, training, drills and rehearsals to demonstrate the preparedness to fight fire emergencies will be held across industries and households in the western zone, said the officials.
