Railway police seize cash, jewels from jewellery store owner in Coimbatore

Coimbatore Railway Police nabbed a man on suspicion at the railway station on Wednesday morning and found that he was carrying Rs.11.85 lakhs and jewels worth Rs.30 lakhs without proper documents.


Coimbatore: A jewellery store owner carrying Rs.11.85 cash and jewellery worth Rs.30 lakhs was nabbed by the Railway Police in Coimbatore on Wednesday after he gave contradictory answers on being questioned by the police.

The man had travelled on the Sabari Express train between Coimbatore and Tirupati and arrived in Coimbatore on Wednesday morning. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) who were on duty at the time, nabbed the man on suspicion. Theying contradictory answers given by the passenger on being interrogated led the police to search his bag.

The man reportedly was carrying Rs.11.85 lakhs in cash and gold jewellery worth Rs.30 lakhs wrapped in paper. Following this, he was taken to the Railway Protection Force (RPF) police station for questioning. He has been identified as Udhayanandam (50), a resident of Kurinji Garden near Thirunagar in Coimbatore who runs a gold jewellery shop on Raja Street.

Udhayanandam reportedly made gold jewellery from Coimbatore and took it to Tirupati, sold the jewellery there and returned to Coimbatore with the money. However, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) police have seized the jewellery and cash from his possession and are investigating, as he did not carry the required documents.
