Valparai: The Estate Staff Union of South India general body meeting was held at Valparai.

The Annual General Body Meeting of Estate Staff Union of South India was held at Valparai, Mudis Estate Officers Manam Hall on Tuesday, April 12. The Southern Presidents of the Association Sunil Kumar and Rebello, Executive President Thomas, General Secretary Sivananda Samy and others were present at the meeting.

Salary hike for officers was discussed with members from Munnar, Highways and Gudalur areas. The officers had been given a 12 percent salary hike in 2021, and the negotiations for the next increment is to be held at Coonoor Upasi. It has been demanded that a 30 percent hike be provided to officers and the Union was urged to take necessary measures.

The attendees of the meeting also demanded for maintenance of the staff quarters and to stop providing promotion for the employees joining a new firm after having worked for another management since the practice puts senior workers in the company at stake, curbing their benefits.

A total of 15 resolutions were passed at the general body meeting which included the salary roll to be issued immediately. Alleging that the administration only provides Rs.100 when the actual cost for a gas cylinder to reach estate quarters ist Rs.1,100, the members requested consideration of the price hike and making necessary changes.

The meeting was attended in large numbers by officials of the estate managements functioning in the Valparai region.
