Palm Sunday procession held in Coimbatore

Palm Sunday processions were held in Coimbatore by Christians to commemorate the triumphant arrival of Jesus Christ in Jerusalem 5 days before his crucifixion.



Coimbatore: The Palm Sunday procession was held in Coimbatore by Christians to commemorate the triumphant arrival of Jesus Christ in Jerusalem 5 days before his crucifixion. Christians observe 40 days of lent which ends during Good Friday to commemorate the last 40 days of Jesus Christ on earth.



This year the penance period observed by Christians to commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ began on March 2. During this 40-day period, in the last week, which includes the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus, is observed as Holy Week. The first day of this holy week is known as Palm Sunday. On this day, Christians take out a procession carrying palm leaves in their hands.



Accordingly, the Palm Sunday procession on behalf of CSI Church, Gandhipuram, Coimbatore began this morning at the church premises. The procession was led by Pastor David Barnabas. Secretary Jayachandran and Treasurer Devaraj Samuel took the lead.



A large number of men, women and children in the community took out a procession carrying palm leaves and singing the name of Jesus as "Hosanna Hosanna" in the procession that began at the Church.
