Remove property tax hike, reduce taxes on fuel and complete the projects done during our regime - SP Velumani during the protest against TN Govt's property tax hike

S P Velumani highlighted that the present DMK regime was responsible for the hike in property tax, the cancellation of AIADMK's schemes for women and budging to the central government pressures.

Coimbatore: Over 500 AIADMK cadres staged a protest near the Coimbatore South Taluk Office condemning the Tamil Nadu Government's hike in property tax.

Property tax has been hiked in Tamil Nadu after many years which has drawn flak from various quarters, including the opposition in the State. In this context, a protest was held on behalf of the AIADMK near the Coimbatore South Governor's Office condemning the property tax hike.

Led by former AIADMK Minister S P Velumani, the protest was attended by more than 500 AIADMK legislators and AIADMK volunteers from Coimbatore district.

Slogans were raised condemning the property tax hike and the cancellation of the AIADMK's 'Thaliku Thangam' scheme, Amma's Mini Clinic, and the free two-wheeler schemes for women.

"DMK came to power by lying to the people and now all their promises have been put on hold. The DMK gave away anklets worth Rs.100 freely and now has raised the tax by thousands for each family. Only when people pay the taxes, they will understand the consequences.

The DMK Government has been all along stating emphatically that they will not implement anything that the Central Government advises but now they are saying that the property tax hike was necessitated by the Central Government. Even during the earlier AIADMK regime when Edappadi K Palaniswami was the Chief Minister, the Central Government had contemplated raising property taxes but the CM would not toe the line stating that property taxes should not be raised even by one percent," stated S P Velumani.

He added, "In five years, we have brought growth in Coimbatore which was not there in 50 years. The present Government has slowed down the flyover projects, drinking water project, and bypass road works which were mostly completed during the AIADMK regime. These projects need to be completed soon."

"Officials had acted in support of the DMK Government in the Presidential election held in Vellalore Municipality. Pollachi Jayaraman was the first to lodge a complaint in the Pollachi sexual assault case. Many people, including the DMK Communist Party staged protests during that time but no one has raised their voice with regard to the recent incident in Virudhunagar," said S P Velumani.

Talking to the media, S P Velumani highlighted that the DMK was responsible for the hike in property tax, cancellation of AIADMK's schemes for women. "We protested against violence targeting women. The DMK Government should repeal the property tax hike and bring back the schemes that were introduced for women, during the last AIADMK regime. All the work started during the last regime in Coimbatore ought to be completed as soon as possible," urged S P Velumani.

"The Tamil Nadu Government also needs to reduce the tax on petrol and diesel, like other states," he concluded.
