Coimbatore: The two people arrested in Coimbatore for chain snatching have stated that they committed the crime as they had no money to pay the college fees.
The Singanallur police arrested two people for allegedly snatching a chain from a woman, while she was riding her two-wheeler. Rasathi hails from Singanallur SIHS Colony and while she was on her way to Irugur on a two-wheeler on the 15th, two people who followed her on another two-wheeler snatched the chain worn by Rasathi and fled. The Singanallur Police launched an investigation as the CCTV footage of snatching a chain from a woman went viral. The police arrested two people, and preliminary investigation revealed that the two, Prakash and Tamil Selvan were studying in a college in Coimbatore.
Prakash was studying in the second year and Tamil Selvan in the third year. Both had lost their fathers and had no money to pay their college fees, leading to the chain snatching on the 15th. They had robbed two women. It has come to light that the duo sold them stating the jewels belonged to their mother to a friend.
They got Rs.1 lakh and paid the fee for two semesters. The police arrested the duo and seized six sovereigns of jewellery and a two-wheeler used to snatch the chain from them. They were also produced before a judge and sent to jail.
